Data Brokers Reap the Whirlwind
The recent high profile cracks of data brokers such as LexisNexis, ChoicePoint, and others are finally attracting government attention. according to Government Computer News, Senators are beginning to see the need to set uniform data brokerage standards at a Federal level versus the current mix of state, local and federal regualtions. One Senator quoted in the GCN article (Arlan Specter, R. Pa.), seems to understand that the vast differences of non-uniform data protection standards leaves the public and private sectors with too much interpretation and little to no effective guidance.
