Mac.Ars takes on three years of OS X

"The first thing I noticed when booting into Panther is that the pinstripes were gone, replaced by the brushed metal introduced way back with iTunes and QuickTime. Mac users knew that the pinstripe jig was up when Safari showed up wearing a full metal jacket. Sure, you could get the "classic" OS X look (sans pinstripes) by toggling the Finder windows and making the sidebar go away, but then the benefits of the sidebar were not available and the windows still behaved a bit oddly."
