 Talk on AppleScript Automation

"For those who may not be familiar with it, AppleScript is a scripting language, I guess you could say, similar to JavaScript and PHP but with a different purpose. It allows you to automate applications and the Macintosh operating system. It can “think” by analyzing user input, file data or situations, but AppleScript does not have the steep learning curve of other scripting languages because of its English-like syntax. And the best part is that AppleScript, a code compiler and many sample scripts come free with the Macintosh Operating System. Hundreds of Macintosh applications can be automated including QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, FileMaker Pro, Canto Cumulus, Extensis Portfolio and many others."
