Athlon XP 2600+
AMD has introduced the Athlon XP 2600+ and there have been some significant improvements to the scalability of the new chip, as we have managed to overclock the 2.133 GHz chip to 2.4 GHz using air-cooling. In our review, we discuss the changes that have been made -- including the addition of a new metal layer -- and their effect on the scalability of the 0.13-micron Athlon XP. Furthermore, we also take a look at the performance of the new and improved Thoroughbred, at both stock 2.133 GHz and 2.4 GHz speeds. We compare it to several other Athlons as well as the 2.53 GHz Pentium 4 and an overclocked 2.9 GHz Pentium 4 in a variety of benchmarks including Comanche 4, NASCAR 2002, Dungeon Siege, Warrior Kings, 3D Studio Max, ScienceMark 2.0, and many more.
