The Ottawa Kernel Summit
Linux Weekly News tells us about the
Ottawa Kernel Summit.
"One interesting point Ken raised had to do with NUMA systems. According to
Ken, most large (8-way or greater) SMP systems are really NUMA systems
internally - it's just that the vendors do not present them that way. It
is hard to make a multi-way system without making memory (and other
resources) be "closer" to some processors than others. So various
techniques for improving performance on NUMA systems (process CPU affinity,
local memory allocation, text replication) will be increasingly important,
even on systems which are not advertised as being NUMA."
