Reed Media Services recently published the BIND 9 DNS Administration Reference Book which covers name server operations and DNS configurations using BIND. The book is based on ISC's BIND documentation, including the official reference manuals. The content has been edited, cross-referenced, indexed, and organized into a single volume with new content added for improved research and study.

The book corresponds to the upcoming BIND 9.5 release and includes documentation and differences for previous versions. The book covers the new statistics output, specifying hosts that can access the cache, EDNS (Extension Mechanisms for DNS), enabling DNSSEC validation, additional section caching, limiting recursive simultaneous clients, configuring built-in empty zones, query port pools, delay between sending notify messages, various zone integrity checks, and other recent 9.4 and 9.5 features.

In addition to the authoritative documentation covering the syntax and all the configuration options for BIND 9.5, the BIND 9 DNS Administration Reference Book also covers the "named" server, configuration tools, diagnostic DNS lookup tools, and tools for operating the server.

The book also includes advanced topics such as dynamic updates, TSIG, DNSSEC, IPv6 support, journal files, split DNS, Incremental Zone Transfers (IXFR), TKEY, and SIG(0). Security considerations such as access control, preventing Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, chroot, setuid, and other security features are also covered.

The BIND 9 DNS Administration Reference Book is available via Amazon and other online book stores. More details are available at the book's website at http://www.reedmedia.net/books/bind-dns/.
